Omnicell Releases Interface Engine and Technology Obsolescence Solution

Print ArticleEmail Article

Omnicell announced the release of OmniGate, an interface engine that will give hospital IT managers remote monitoring, alert functionality, and more rapid development and testing of new interfaces, according to the company.

"The OmniGate system transforms and communicates data between disparate systems over a variety of communication protocols, improving communication from Omnicell's product line to the hospital's admissions, billing, pharmacy and materials management information systems," explained Robert Johns, Omnicell's manager of interface development. "It centralizes the management of all the hospital interfaces for all Omnicell solutions and also maximizes communication efficiencies between Omnicell's products."

The company also introduced OmniEvolve, a program designed to keep customer technologies "evolving" so they are never outdated.

"OmniEvolve upgrades mission-critical servers in the Omnicell computing environment, enabling systems to evolve with advances in computer technology, avoiding unnecessary obsolescence and maximizing capital investment," said Michael Cline, Omnicell's vice president of service.

The capital costs associated with a typical computing technology upgrade can be prohibitive, Cline said, especially when combined with the soft-dollar impact of performance and reliability degradation over the life of a system. As part of a comprehensive service strategy, he added, OmniEvolve effectively avoids these costs in two ways: (1) It provides a simple, predictable method of amortization as an operating expense; and it ensures a reliable, guaranteed upgrade path to the latest technology at predetermined milestones.
