ADVANCE 's Health Care IT monthly podcasts are hosted by Spencer Hamons, CIO at San Luis Valley (SLV) Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, Colo.
Spencer is responsible for all strategic and tactical IT operations for SLV
Regional Medical Center , as well as the 30-provider SLV Physicians Services, Conejos County Hospital and PEAK Therapy.
Prior to being recruited to SLV Regional Medical Center , Spencer worked in urban community hospitals, academic teaching institutions and for-profit health care facilities. He was the corporate director of community hospital IT for The Methodist Healthcare System in Houston , where he was responsible for all technology operations and strategy for Methodist's community hospitals. He also was responsible for the design and implementation of all infrastructure for the new construction of Methodist Willowbrook Hospital . Prior to his work with Methodist, Spencer was the director of IT for Texas Orthopedic Hospital , a for-profit joint venture between Columbia / HCA and the Fondren Orthopedic Group.
Spencer produces a bi-weekly podcast about health IT at http://itpodcast.org and has been named as one of the Top 25 Mid-Market IT Leaders by CIO Decisions magazine. He has been recognized as one of the nation's top IT innovators and served on the Joint Commission's Health IT Advisory Panel in 2006.
He has clinical experience as a combat medic in the United States Army, and served as a paramedic and monitor technician at Conroe Regional Medical Center located in the urban center of Conroe , Texas , just north of Houston .
